In our continuous endeavour for sustainable development of management students we organized Romanthan – 2006, an All Orissa Business School Meet on 02 April 2006, in intellectual collaboration with Cuttack Management Association, an affiliate of All India Management Association (AIMA). It was a competitive congregation of management students, representing their respective institutions. The students representing their respective colleges were required to test their knowledge, skills, wits, patience and perseverance against their counterparts from other institutions. Romanthan consisted of the following events wherein each event required students to excel in some attributes mandatory for management students to possess.
Vachaspati – Inter College English Debate Competition
Vichakshan – Inter College Quiz Competition
Vivechan – Inter College Case Study Analysis Competition
A total of 9 institutions participated in the event. The students who excelled in these events were honored for their performance and grit. The DRIEMS B-School has instituted a Running Trophy in the memory of Late Shri Dhaneswar Rath – the visionary philanthropist who worked for the upliftment of the economically and socially downtrodden, to felicitate the institutions winning the team events. The trophy was awarded in each event to the winning colleges. In addition, the individual winners in each event were awarded cash prizes.
The institute organised National Management Seminar on “Corpoprates That Care: Truth of Myth”, a currently relevant concept on 30 April 2006. This also provided an exposure to the students to quality research work in the field of management. A total of 18 original research papers were presented in the Technical Session of the Seminar.
Corporate organizations and care for the society – is it a kaleidoscope of contrasts or are they synergistic siblings? Is it a transient hallucination or a profound change in attitude? Is it just a façade to appease the proletarians or a paradigm shift in management practices? The aim of the National Management Seminar – 2006 was to solve this conundrum through identification of underlying dimensions behind philanthropic activities by corporate entities. The convention intended to debate and discuss the issues raised above so as to synthesize and delineate the causes and consequences of this gargantuan development in management arena.
