It began as an act of philanthropy in the aftermath of the super cyclone that devastated Orissa in 1999. A modest Technical Education Centre, established by Dr Pramod Chandra Rath, has since blossomed into a full-fledged university, currently imparting education to over 6000 students. Odisha had a glorious history but, over the last five hundred years it became known for natural calamities and destitution. Education and access to skills and training were urgently required to break the cycle and provide new opportunities to the youth. The DRIEMS University, created under an Act of the Odisha Assembly in 2023, has been a major initiative of the private sector. On the happy occasion of the 2nd Convocation of the University we recognise the vision of Dr Rath, his dedication to public causes and his commendable generosity. I extend my felicitations to the young graduates and other scholars as they begin a new and exciting chapter in their lives. May your future be filled with purpose, and may you carry forward the spirit of service and excellence that is embodied in the DRIEMS University.
