Prof. (Dr.) Gopal Krishna Nayak

Prof. (Dr.) Gopal Krishna Nayak is a distinguished academician with a strong interdisciplinary foundation in engineering, management, and information systems. He holds a Ph.D. in Business Administration and Management from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur. He earned his Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM), with specialization in Management Information Systems, from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Bangalore. He completed his B.Tech. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from IIT Kharagpur, providing him with a strong technical foundation that complements his expertise in management, information systems, technology, and academic leadership.

Prof. Nayak is an eminent academician, technology professional, institution builder, and e-Governance expert with extensive experience spanning higher education, information systems, management, technology, power electronics, institutional development, and public-sector digital transformation. He served as the first Director of the International Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Bhubaneswar from July 2007 to April 2021, where he made significant contributions to institution building, infrastructure development, academic programmes, curriculum design, research, and technology initiatives. He has also held senior academic and administrative positions at XIM University, Bhubaneswar, and Xavier Institute of Management (XIMB), contributing to teaching, research, academic administration, and technology-oriented education. Earlier in his career, he worked as an Assistant Engineer at NELCO Ltd., Mumbai, in the area of power electronics design.
A passionate programmer and technology enthusiast, Prof. Nayak has conceptualized and developed notable software systems, including Mandaar UMS, an open-source University Management System used at IIIT Bhubaneswar for more than a decade, and PAMIS, a project-based accounting system adopted by the Government of Odisha’s Panchayati Raj Department for financial and accounting management across the three-tier Panchayati Raj system.
He has also served as an Advisor to the Government of Odisha on e-Governance initiatives, contributing to technology-enabled projects involving the Treasury, Commercial Taxes, IDCO, BDA, and other government programmes. His distinguished career reflects a unique integration of Engineering, Management, Academic Leadership, Software Development, Institution Building, and Digital Governance, with significant contributions to higher education, technology innovation, and public-sector transformation in Odisha.
