Prakash Kumar Hota has graduated from National Institute of Technology (formerly REC), Tiruchirappalli in the year 1985 in Electrical & Electronics Engineering with distinction. He has obtained his ME in Industrial Power Control and Electric Drives from Sambalpur University in the year 1992 and Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from Jadavpur University Kolkata in the year 1999 under Quality Improvement Programme of MHRD. Initially after his graduation worked as a Scientist in National Council for Cement & Building Materials, New Delhi and Joined VSSUT (Formerly UCE) Burla as a lecturer in the Department of Electrical Engineering in September 1987. He has more than 36 years of professional and administrative experience out of which more than 32 years at VSSUT.
PHe has served in various capacity such as Head of Electrical Engineering Department, Head of Training and Placement Department, Head of Computer Applications Department, Dean of Students’ Welfare, Dean of Sponsored Research and Industrial Consultancy, Dean of Centre for Distance and Continuing Education, Dean, Scholl of Computer Sciences, etc. Apart from this University, he has worked as Vice-Chairman, Joint Entrance Examination of Odisha State in 2002 and Chairman of Joint Entrance Examination of Odisha State in 2007, First Principal of BPUT’s new Constituent College Parala Maharaja Engineering College, Berhampur; Principal of College of Engineering & Technology (CET), (now OUTR) Bhubaneswar; Dean, faculty of Engineering and faculty of Architecture of Biju Patnaik University of Technology, Odisha. Currently, He is working as the first Vice-Chancellor of DRIEMS University, Cuttack, Odisha.
He has been awarded many National and International Awards such as Best Engineering College Teacher Award for Odisha State – 2002, givenby The Indian Society for Technical Education, New Delhi for outstanding contribution to academic and student community. Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Memorial Award twice in 2000 and 2008, given by The Institution of Engineers (India) for research work. The Union Ministry of Energy – Department of Power Prize twice in 2004 and 2010 for Research work. His Name is listed in “The Contemporary WHO’s WHO” 2002-2003, published by The American Biographical Institute, USA on the basis of merited accomplishment and success in Contemporary Society. Also, he has been awarded Govinda Gupta Memorial Running Shield for outstanding contribution in the field of Research and Development Activity by Odisha State Centre of the Institution of Engineers (India).
He has completed successfully five sponsored research projects. He has published more than 204 research papers in various reputed National and International Journals, Conferences and magazines. Guided 45 Masters’ thesis and 16 P.D thesis and coauthored a book and 12 book chapters. He is the reviewer of more than 25 reputed International Journals including IEEE Transactions, European Transactions, IET UK, Elsevier Science, Taylor & Francis, Wiley and Springer journals. Chaired various technical sessions in National and International Conferences. He is a Fellow of Institution of Engineers (India) and Senior Member of IEEE, USA.
