Dr. Mihira Kumara Mishra

Dr. Mihira Kumara Mishra is a distinguished academician and Plant Pathologist currently serving as Professor in the Department of Plant Pathology at the School of Agriculture, DRIEMS University, Tangi. He possesses a strong academic background with B.Sc. (Ag), M.Sc. (Ag), and Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from reputed institutions. He was conferred the prestigious Fellow of the Indian Phytopathological Society (FPSI), IARI, New Delhi in 2015 in recognition of his contributions to plant pathology. He has over 33 years of professional experience encompassing research, teaching, and extension, including 15 years in research, 16 years in teaching, and 2 years in extension. His areas of expertise include fungal pathology, plant virology, mushroom cultivation, spawn production, and isolation and mass multiplication of biocontrol agents. He has extensive experience in field disease diagnosis and has served on several diagnostic committees for plant disease identification and management in the state. Dr. Mishra has made significant contributions to academic and research excellence with over 104 research publications in national and international journals. He has played key roles in academic development, including serving as a unit reviewer for e-course development (Pl. Path-502, Plant Virology) under the National Agricultural Higher Education Project (NAHEP) and conducting entrepreneurship training programs. He has guided 23 M.Sc. and 10 Ph.D. students and served as an advisory committee member for more than 50 postgraduate and doctoral students. He has actively contributed to capacity building by conducting 123 training programs for farmers, extension officers, and entrepreneurs, along with extensive diagnostic field visits. He has also delivered 23 All India Radio talks and participated in 35 Doordarshan programs on crop protection. Dr. Mishra has been instrumental in the development of five sugarcane varieties, namely Sabita, Neelamadhab, Neelachakra, Raghunath, and Charchika under AICRP on Sugarcane. He has handled 13 funded research projects as Principal Investigator and Co-Principal Investigator. He is actively associated with several professional societies and editorial boards. With expertise in modern plant pathology techniques, laboratory methods, and data analysis, Dr. Mishra is dedicated to quality teaching, research innovation, and community engagement, making him a valuable asset to the institution and a mentor to students.
