Socio-Economically Disadvantaged Groups Cell (SEDG)

               The Socio-Economic Disadvantage Group (SEDG) Committee of DRIEMS University is established to support students belonging to socially and economically disadvantaged backgrounds and to ensure equal access to quality education and opportunities within the University. The Committee works towards promoting inclusiveness, equity, and social justice by addressing the academic, financial, social, and emotional needs of students from underprivileged sections of society. It strives to create a supportive environment that enables every student to participate actively in academic and co-curricular activities without discrimination or barriers.

Scope

The scope of the Socio-Economic Disadvantage Group (SEDG) Committee includes:


  ● Identifying and supporting students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds.
  ● Facilitating access to scholarships, financial assistance, and government welfare schemes.
  ● Promoting equal opportunities in academic, cultural, sports, and extracurricular activities.
  ● Addressing issues related to social inequality, discrimination, and exclusion within the campus.
  ● Providing counselling, mentoring, and academic support to disadvantaged students.
  ● Organizing awareness programs on social inclusion, equity, and welfare measures.
  ● Coordinating with University departments and authorities for student welfare and support services.

Objectives

  ● To promote social equity, inclusiveness, and equal educational opportunities for all students.
  ● To support students from economically weaker and socially disadvantaged sections in their academic pursuits.
  ● To create awareness regarding scholarships, financial aid, and welfare schemes available from government and non-government organizations.
  ● To reduce barriers that hinder the educational progress of disadvantaged students. To provide academic guidance, counselling, and mentoring support for student development.
  ● To encourage confidence, participation, and holistic growth among students from disadvantaged groups.
  ● To ensure a discrimination-free, supportive, and student-friendly campus environment.
  ● To uphold the principles of social justice, equality, and human dignity in the University.

Functions

  ● To identify students belonging to socio-economically disadvantaged groups and assess their support requirements.
  ● To guide and assist students in applying for scholarships, fee concessions, and government welfare schemes.
  ● To organize counselling sessions, mentoring programs, and awareness activities for student welfare.
  ● To provide academic and emotional support to students facing socio-economic challenges.
  ● To monitor issues related to discrimination, exclusion, or inequality and recommend corrective measures.
  ● To encourage active participation of disadvantaged students in academic and extracurricular activities.
  ● To coordinate with faculty members, mentors, and University authorities for effective student support.
  ● To maintain records of activities, student support initiatives, and welfare measures undertaken by the Committee.
  ● To recommend policies and initiatives for improving inclusiveness and accessibility within the campus.
  ● To promote a culture of equality, compassion, respect, and social responsibility throughout the University.
