World Bee Day 2026 Celebrated at DRIEMS University School of Agriculture

DRIEMS University, School of Agriculture, celebrated World Bee Day 2026 with great enthusiasm under the global theme, “Bee Together for People and the Planet – A Partnership That Sustains Us All.” The event highlighted the indispensable role of bees and other pollinators in ensuring food security, maintaining ecological balance, and conserving biodiversity.

The programme commenced with a keynote address by Prof. Dr. Ramanath Mahapatra, Professor of Entomology, School of Agriculture, who shared valuable insights on the history, significance, and future prospects of beekeeping in India. He emphasized the contribution of apiculture to sustainable agriculture and rural livelihoods.

An expert lecture was delivered by Dr. Pravasini Behera, Principal Investigator, AICRP on Honey Bees and Pollinators, College of Agriculture, OUAT, Bhubaneswar, who elaborated on the crucial role of pollinators in biodiversity conservation and ecosystem sustainability. She highlighted the growing need for collective efforts to protect pollinator populations in the face of environmental challenges.

Addressing the gathering, Prof. (Dr.) K. K. Rout, Dean, School of Agriculture, underscored the university’s commitment to pollinator conservation and sustainable agricultural practices. He informed attendees about the establishment of an apiary comprising 10 bee units on the university campus, serving as both a learning resource for students and a step toward promoting ecological stewardship.

The celebration served as a platform to raise awareness about the importance of bees and encouraged students, faculty members, and stakeholders to actively participate in pollinator conservation initiatives.

As the event concluded, participants reaffirmed the message that when bees flourish, both people and the planet thrive together. 🌍🐝🌸
