DRIEMS University celebrated National Librarians’ Day 2026 with great enthusiasm and reverence at the Padmini Auditorium, honouring the invaluable contribution of librarians in preserving knowledge, promoting reading, supporting academic excellence, and inspiring lifelong learning.
The celebration commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by floral tributes to Late Shri Dhaneswar Rath and Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science. The programme brought together distinguished dignitaries, faculty members, library professionals, and students to celebrate the enduring importance of libraries and the transformative power of knowledge.
The event was graced by Chief Guest Dr. Banamber Sahoo, Principal Technical Officer (Retd.), RMRC, Bhubaneswar, along with Prof. (Dr.) Prakash Kumar Hota, Vice Chancellor, DRIEMS University, and Prof. (Dr.) Ramakanta Panigrahi, Pro-Vice Chancellor.
The occasion was further honoured by the presence of Sjt. Balaram Kar, Director – Administration; Prof. Lokanath Behera, Director – Student Relations; and Dr. Susanta Das, Advisor.
Dr. Bibhu Prasad Panda, Chief Librarian, DRIEMS University, delivered the welcome address and highlighted the significance and objectives of National Librarians’ Day, setting the stage for an engaging and insightful programme.
The celebration featured thought-provoking addresses by dignitaries and library professionals, reflections by students, and the felicitation of the Chief Guest. The discussions highlighted the evolving role of libraries in the digital age and their continued importance as spaces for learning, research, innovation, and intellectual growth.
A library is more than a collection of books; it is a gateway to knowledge, imagination, innovation, discovery, and lifelong learning. Librarians play a vital role in guiding learners towards the right resources and nurturing a culture of reading and knowledge-sharing.
